  • This is the most traditional view of the study of community .
  • Geographical communities are formed by either natural or human made bounderies .
  • A river ,a mountain range ,or valley may create a natural boundary .
  • Human made bounderies may be structural ,political or legal .
  • Streets ,bridges or railroad tracks may create structural bounderies .
  • City ,country or state lines create legal bounderies .
  • Political bounderies may be exemplified by congressional districts or school districts.
  • Phenomenological community on the other hand is a group of people who have shared or like minded relationships , values ,interests ,beliefs goals .
  • The phenomenological community does not necessarly share geographical bounderies as does the geographical community .
  • Examples of phenomenological communities include religious groups and social groups .
  • In other words ,phenomenological designations are relational designations .
  • It is often defined in terms of its feeling of belonging .
  • People in a phenomenological community have a group perspective that differentiates them from other groups.
  • This identity may be based on culture ,beliefs , values , common interests , characteristics or goals e.x : religious groups , professional groups , academic interest groups .
