The three major components of primary renal panel are BUN, creatinine and urine specific gravity. Creatinine is a good indicator of GFR Increase in creatinine is decreasein glomerular filtration. Decrease in creatinine is increase in glomerular filtration. BUN is a good indicator of GFR. Increase in BUN is decrease in glomerular filtration. Decrease in BUN is increase in glomerular filtration.

SST tubes can be used to collect a serum specimen . Red-top tube contains no anticoagulant or preservative and it is used in serum or clotted whole blood. Serum must be separated from cells within two hours of venipuncture.
