Assessment forms the basis for initiating a patient care.It is generally called as a head to toe assessment

The first assessment being a simple conversation in collection of history where a patient who has hearing problems

  • will be hard of hearing and talking loudly
  • Trying to lean forward to answer a question
  • Head tilted towards the person who is conversing
  • Confused while talking or while answering
  • A tuning fork test is done to assess for hearing loss
  • Audiometry enables the level of hearing
  • Otoscope enables to view any deposition of wax,blockade I the pathway of ear canal
  • Tympanometry enables to assess the function of ear drum
  • The intervention for the patients are either medically (instilling ear drops to soften wax,treat infections, injuries etc.,)
  • Hearing aide,coclear implants in generally advice d for individuals who have a permanent hear loss
  • In case of children ,they have to be enrolled in early intervention program according to IDEA,Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program
  • The assistive devices FM system,Captioning ,Text messages, Teletype cylinder ,portable sound amplifiers are other intervention.
