How would a nurse practitioner and a nurse manager differ with regard to how they use and incorporate EBP in their areas of practice?
The Healthcare professionals differ from each other in terms of their job but the goal of each of the health care professional is common recovery of the patient. Therefore care must be taken to ensure that while the differences are respected the common goal of patient’s recovery is kept in mind and working is accordingly moved forward.
The role of nurses is to look after the health status and patient's treatment plan. Implementation of physician's order is also something a nurse looks after. Advance nurse practitioners can prescribe medications as well and work closely with physicians. Academic requirement includes a bachelor's degree in nursing for general practice while nurse practitioner needs advanced master degrees in the area of specialization. Along with academic requirements the nurse is supposed to be empathetic, compassionate, quick thinker and good reasoning.
Nurse Manager refers to a nurse who manages and organizes and supervises the work of staff nurse.
Nurse Manager Role:
A nurse manager supervises and observes the care given by the staff nurse and evaluates what need to improve or change.
The cost of health care is increasing day by day a nurse manager encourages the patient to choose more natural method then opting for medications or surgical procedure for example a simple fever can be treated with tapid bath and keeping self hydrated.
She ensures that the staff nurses are paid well and are paid what they deserve.
If the staff nurses are paid well and in time it also encourages them to work more dedicatedly and efficiently.
In the following ways both nurse practitioner and a nurse manager differ in the use and incorporation of EBP:
A. NMs are responsible to devise the EBP strategy for their unit. NPs are responsible for executing it as they are the people on the ground helping patients.
B. NMs are responsible for clear communication of EBP goals to the NPs and helping them with the ways to achieve those goals through their daily work.
C. NMs are responsible for helping NPs stay up to date with the latest happenings in the clinical world and use these learning’s with their patients, thereby facilitating Evidence Based Practice
D. NMs are responsible for reviewing the progress of the NPs in terms of whether they apply EBP in their work or not. How effective is it for their respective patients? Based on the outputs of these, NMs are responsible to tweak their EBP strategies.
