What is debridement ?
We need to understand this first . It is a process which promotes healing process. in this process we have to remove the dead skin , foreign body such as hairs or any thing so the healing process become fast .
In simple words we have to remove all those things which are not supposed to be there such as dead skin , hairs ,callus , necrotic material etc
Now you would be thinking how would removing tissues from a wound will help in healing process but yes it will help
What is the purpose of wound debridement ?
1. Wound debridement is usually done to keep the wound clean and free from infection so that healing process become fast . The dead and necrotic material attract the bacteria and they hinders the healing process
2. The wound is cleaned up so it get the clear edges so that the healing doesn't produce ang scar
3. One important purpose of wound debridement is it is used for collection of sample for diagnosis and testing of the wound
What are the type of wound debridement ?
1. Surgical debridement : it usually uses sharp instruments such as scalpers , scissors . It is done when the word is large and deep . With the help of scalper and scissor the necrotic material is removed
2. Chemical debridement : in this type of wound debridement we apply some medication and then apply bandage . The medication have some enzymatic properties which dissolve the dead mass
3. Mechanical debridement: it is a manual process and we have to do wet to dry dressing
4. Autolytic debridement : this type of mechanism is done when forceful method cannot be performed such as surgical . Usually done in pressure sore .
