Prefix and suffix of a root word is an essential strategy which gives a structured and meaning for a medical term. It is very important for healthcare professionals to learn different prefix and suffix words along with their meanings. It is very critical to learn because most of the words are from Latin or Greek but It makes health care professionals improve their knowledge and skills of using various kinds of terms in different areas. The prefix is a first word attached to the root and suffix is the last word. The medical term is a scientific word used worldwide, so learning with prefix and suffix will improve the vocabulary and able to construct medical words.

For Ex:

Prefix

  • Myocarditis - Myo (prefix) muscle(middle) layer of the heart.
  • Gastritis - gast- prefix - stomach

Suffix

  • Pancreatitis - itis - suffix - inflammation
  • cardiomegaly - megaly - enlargement
