4).

Supplying nutrients by tube feeding is a part of nutritional support for patients that are at the risk of developing malnutrition, this is called as “enteral nutrition.” In this method, nutrients are delivered in the form of dense-formulas directly to the stomach or small intestine. The three types of enteral feeding are,

  • Elemental formulas – Contains all the nutrients necessary to meet the body’s nutritional demands. These nutrients are present in their form so that they can be absorbed readily (for example, fats are present as medium chain triglycerides). These are simply referred to as “pre-digested formulas” and must be used only under medical supervision.
  • Semi-elemental formulas – They contain the nutrients in the semi or partially digested form. It contains medium chain triglycerides, simple carbohydrates, and peptides with varying length
  • Polymeric formulas – They contains all the nutrients necessary for the patient, but in their whole form. Means, this require the functioning of digestive organs. It also include the fiber and can be taken through the oral route.

Ensure is a polymeric enteric formula, which contains nutrients in their whole form rather than in elemental or semi-elemental form. Ensure offer a complete and balanced nutrition with affordable price.
