The public health professionals implement system management coordination during a public health outbreak such as in conditions of some viral disease , disaster etc by the process of Medical preparedness and professional skills such as coordination , collaboration ,teamwork , good communication skills , being responsible , following medical ethics etc .
Medical preparedness :-
The existance of plans, procedures, policies, training, and equipment necessary to maximize the ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from major events, including efforts that result in the capability to render an appropriate public health and medical response that will mitigate the effects of illness and injury, limit morbidity and mortality to the maximum extent possiblle, and sustain societal, economic, and political infrastructure.
Stages :-
1..Prevention
Provide education regarding what to expect in a disaster and how to deal with effects of a disaster.
2. Protection
-coordinate, plan, and administer public health response
-develop an all-hazards public health emergency response plan
-collaborate with and participate in the exchange of health information both prior to and during a disaster
3. Mitigation
-Adequately address public and mental health as well as societal impacts during disaster planning
-identify hazards, vulnerabilities, risk and necessary community resources applicable to physical, social, and psychosocial effects of disasters
-identify groups most at risk from disaster
-consult with health care systems/facilities to assess magnitude and needs
-develop and advocate policies that will help limit public health impact
-share critical information about health risks and reducing risk of exposure
-share information in languages and formats that account for the demographics of the area
4. Response
-take responsibility for the health of the community after a disaster
-Prevent disease by: injury prevention, food and water safety, and vector control
-coordinate public health interventions
-Conduct/oversee data collection, analysis, interpretation,and and management of public health-related data for surveillance and investigation
-use resources to make recommendations
-use labs to assess samples and determine threats
-Assure that public health services continue post-impact
-communicate with govt officials effects of disaster and provide expert assistance.
5. Recovery
-Assess impact to determine and prioritize the recovery need
-provide access to health services, medication and other consumable medical supplies, and durable medical equipment
-Carry out responsibilities in the Emergency Support Function
Request, recruit, and credential medical and health volunteers
-work with local authorities to manage fatalities
-Collaborate with health and human service individuals to evaluate intervention outcomes
#. It is important to have these skills for the public health professionals because without these skills if they work aslo it would of no outcome because until and unless all work together the goal won't be achieved in a collaborative process .
