Mrs. Ella Hobbs is an 87 year old female who was admitted with a hip fracture, then contracted C. Difficile while in recovery. She lives in a small apartment very close to her 60 year old daughter. Prior to admission she was reportedly “healthy” per daughter. Per the social worker notes Mrs. Hobbs will be returning to live with her daughter as she further recovers. You have received a consult for “poor nutrition” and will be visiting her in patient room. She is currently on a regular diet.

Ht: 5’2”           Admission Wt: 92 lbs Current Wt: 87 lbs

Lab: Hgb 9.7 g/dl; WBC 18,500 cells/ml; Alb 2.7 mg/dl

BP: 100/77

Other diagnoses: osteopenia

Meds: metronidazole, Culturelle, Ferrex

- what is your staple food?

- what is your food portion?

- how many litres of water do you drink in a day?

- what are the calcium rich diet that you take or include in your meal?

- what are the food that you take as a supplement for the iron?

What form of proteins do you include in your diet?

Diet recall for Mrs Ella Hobbs:

6:00 am - one glass of milk

8:30 am - sandwich and tea

12:30 pm - steamed rice with steamed vegetables and lean meat

4:30 pm - fruit bowl containing pomegranate and beetroots

8:30 pm - bowl of salad with green vegetable and lentil soup

10:00 pm - one glass of milk

This diet comprises of rich calcium for her better bone healing and protein for proper healing and iron rich to provide proper haemoglobin in the body .
