56 Year old male with history of diabetes , HT and smoking and they are having below knee amputation.

  1. Psychological challenges will be likely for patient with BKA.But patient will feel that psuedo pain will be there. Patient will feel the psuedo leg always and it will be tough for him to cope post surgery.He walks and do all work as usual like he has that part , it takes long time for him to accept it. He will under go very bad stage of grief process.
  2. Pre operatively as a nurse need to explain the procedure to the patient. Explain everything about BKA and life after that and need to give some real examples so that they will under stand, get the help from spritual leaders for couselling, patient needs psychological support.
  3. Post operatively as a nurse need to explain how to cope with BKA and how to move life after that,need to explain him about crutches or any devices that fit in, explain about artifical limb etc and benefits of it . mostly explain about they can live life as normal.
