b) J.C. severely injures his knee during a rec. league hockey game. The doctor informs him he has torn knee cartilage. Would you expect J.C. to have a quick recovery? Explain.

(****) Liver regeneration is the process by which the liver is able to replace lost liver tissue from growth from the remaining tissue. The liver is the only visceral organ that possesses the capacity to regenerate. The liver can regenerate after either surgical removal or after chemical injury.

Unlike other tissues in the body, joint cartilagehas no innate ability to repair itself, making any injury permanent. Left untreated, knee cartilage damage can deteriorate into debilitating osteoarthritis and chronic pain, ultimately necessitating a joint replacement procedure.

Unlike other types of tissue, cartilage does not have a blood supply. Because of this, damaged cartilage takes much longer to heal, compared with other tissues that are supplied by blood.

When cartilage in a joint is damaged, it can cause severe pain, inflammation, and some degree of disability - this is known as articular cartilage.
