Community health is determined by variety of health determinants.Undeestanding the history or the past if public health helps in present day planning in many ways
1) Understanding the history will help us to identify the epidemiology of a particular disease,the causative factors,population involved and measures that were taken in the past to reduce the wide spread of the disease this will help us to indetify any relapsed or comeback diseases with a different epidemiology and in a different population.
2) understanding history will help us to devise better plans for the present .because there may be many experts who must have toiled and brought about certain strategies which may or may not have worked . revisiting those strategies will help us to devise better strategies .
3) Understanding the public health history will help us to set a benchmark for present indicators like for unicable diseases,maternal mortality,water borne disease.It will help us set better standards to achieve much lower rates.It will help us to compare the past and present data
4) Understanding the history of a community health will help us to understand the present communities sociocultural background, demographic background,risk factors, nutritional background which will help us to focus on wide range of health determinants rather than focusing on a particular age group or population
5)Ecological changes occurs regularly so are the risk factors .in the last few decades Heart attacks was considered as the biggest cause of death but as years passed by it's the sepsis which is the largest cause of disease.So understanding the past will help us to identify the various present day risk factors for a particular disease and take mesaures to prevent those.
6) Understanding the public health history will help us to curb antimicrobial Resistance like earlier if any antibiotic was resistant and people stopped using it slowly the present day organism are susceptible to those antibiotic strains now .which help in providing appropriate antimicrobial therapy
7) Understanding the past will halso help us to appreciate the efforts taken by the old public health professionals and help in further researches .
