Juanita is a 10-year-old Hispanic child with severe persistent asthma. She has had multiple Emergency Department admissions for asthma exacerbations. Juanita lives in low-income housing in the inner city along with her mother, grandmother, and an older sibling. Initial Discussion Post: How will Juanita’s cultural and socioeconomic factors influence the development of an asthma education plan?
Answer: The Juanita belongs to low socioeconomic status as well as living in the old building. This make difficulty in developing an asthma education plan as asthma is related to breathing problems. The medication that is required such as inhaler devices could be little expensive for this group of people. The patient should be taught that Juanita should not be exposed in much polluted air or chemicals. It is necessary for the Juanita to be get exposed in the sun but prevention from UV rays directly. This is because some of the medication may cause dental caries or weakening of teeth. There would be need of vitamin D to be synthesized.
