The wife of a 78 year old patient is calls at 2 pm and says the patient has fallen and is having a hard time getting up. She wants to know if she can bring him into the clinic to be seen that day. She does not drive but thinks her son can help bring him in. How should you handle the situation? What questions should you ask? How should you document this in the chart? Use your critical thinking skills when answering.

Reassure the patient and the caller .

Ask for basic details to analyse the circumstance which includes

1) Condition of the patient

2) Consciousness and responsiveness of the patient

3) Active Limb Movements

4) Blood Loss

Say yes the patient has to be brought in as soon as possible without any disturbance as it may lead to unintented complications of pre existing conditions if any ...including fractures, open wounds, traumatic injury etc

Also... preferably bring with them any previous reports or hospital records.
