From 80% to 90% of individuals affected are women" in reference to fibromyalgia. Is there a possibility of this condition being associated with the X chromosome? Has this been explored in the literature?

Yes, this has been explored in literature.

Because females have two copies of the X chromosome and males have only one X chromosome, X-linked recessive diseases are more common among males than females. Each daughter will have a 50% chance of being an unaffected carrier like her mother and a 50% chance of both X chromosomes being normal.

Women get affected by fibromyalgia only if the defect allele is seen on both X chromosomes most of women are carriers, where as males show the symptoms as they have only one X chromosome.

Around 1 in 250 women in the are carriers of the abnormal gene that causes fragile X syndrome.
