Answer #1

Given :n=4(the subgroup sample size)

Xbar of sample 1 =AVERAGE(C4:F4)=12.038

(Drag this cell formula down for rest of the samples)

Range of sample 1 =MAX(C4:F4)-MIN(C4:F4)=0.13

(Drag this cell formula down for rest of the samples)

X-double bar=AVERAGE(G4:G6)=12.00

Rbar=AVERAGE(H4:H6)=0.24

In X chart ,

UCLx=X-bar bar +A2*Rbar=H9+H11*H10=12.2

LCLx=X-bar bar -A2*Rbar=H9-H11*H10=11.8

In R chart,

UCLr=D4 *R-bar=2.282*0.24=0.55

LCLr=D3*R-bar=0*0.24=0

Based on X-bar chart ,all the sample means(Xbar values) are within the control limits.Hence,the process is in control.

Based on R chart ,all the sample ranges are within the control limits.Hence,the process is in control.

Therefore,the process is in control.

    Quality Associates, Inc., a consulting firm, advises its clients about sampling and statistical procedures that can be used to control their manufacturing processes. In one particular application, a client gave Quality Associates a sample of 800 observations taken during a time in which that client’s process was operating satisfactorily. The sample standard deviation for these data was .21; hence, with so much data, the population standard deviation was assumed to be .21. Quality Associates then suggested that random samples of...
