Question

Carbon-11 is radioactive. How would you expect it to decay?
Like all nuclides with more than 83 protons, radon-226 is radioactive. If it decays through alpha emission, provide the ident

Answer #1

First of all Alpha decay decreases the atomic number by 2 units and mass number by 4 units and beta decay increases the atomic number by one unit without changing the mass number.

1. 86Rn226 ------> 84Po222 + 2He4

2. 90Th228------> 88Ra224 +2He4

88Ra224-----> 86Rn220+ 2He4

86Rn220------> 84Po216 2He4

84Po216 -----> 82Pb212 +2He4

82Pb212----> 80Hg208 +2He4

80Hg208---> 81Tl208 + -1e0

81Tl208 ------> 82Pb208 + -1e0
