Answer #1

Laboratory scale distillation column are more efficient than industrial scale distillation column mainly because of below reasons

1)In industrail distillation columns some of the energy losses may be there due to surrounding atmosphere but in laboratory it is fully isolated

2)Murphee efficiency of small column is high compare to large column ,so obviousley small column has more efficiency compared to large column

3)Condenser and Reboiler loads for small are small and large for large columns

4)The effectiveness of column depends on No.of Transfer units ----> Z = HTU x NTU

5)In industrial scale columns there is a problem of Weeping, dumping . Entrainment problems

4.6. A distillation column is a process unit in which a feed mixture is separated by multiple partial vapor- izations and condensations to form two or more product streams. The overhead product stream is rich in the most volatile components of the feed mixture (the ones that vaporize most readily), and Equipment Encyclopedia distillation column the bottom product stream is rich in the least volatile components.
