What is the difference between non-associative and associative learning?
Which types of learning fall within each category?
Associative Learning:
This associative learning occurs when the individual associates a stimuli with their learning behavior. If an external stimuli is associated when a new behavior is learned then it is known as associative learning.
Types of learning that falls in this category are as follows:
A) Classical conditioning: Here the neutral stimuli is associated with the unconditional stimuli which turns into a conditional stimuli after several pairing and develops the ability to rise a conditioned response in the individual.
B) Operant Conditioning: Here the consequences of behavior is associated with the learning behavior.
Non Associative Learning:
When the pairing or association with the external stimuli did not occurs then it is known as non associative learning. Repeated exposure to stimuli increases the strength of the behavior.
Types of learning that falls in this category are as follows:
A) Habituation : Here repeated exposure to a stimuli decreases the response to that stimuli.
B) Sensitization: Here repeated exposure to a stimuli increases the amplification of the response to that stimuli.
DIFFERENCES:
ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING NON ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING
1. Association with stimuli occurs Association with stimuli does not occurs.
2. Diminishes after some time Creates a permanent change
3. Can be unlearned Cannot be unlearned
