3 cos 60° +4 cos 45° = 4.328 m/s

1. You have to take the horizontal direction as the line of action. If you want to find the relative velocity then their line of action should be in one line. In case of vertical direction, line of action in different line, though you can find the vertical component of the velocity vector. it always gives you the angular relative velocity as there is a gap between their vertical component of velocity vector.

2. 3 cos 60° and 4 cos 45° is the horizontal component of velocity vector B & A respectively.
