The equivalent capacitance for capacitors connected in series is given by

The equivalent capacitance for the capacitors connected in parallel is given by

                                                    

So, if we connect four 1 mF capacitor in parallel then the equivalent capacitance will be

                                                     

So, if we connect four 1 mF capacitor in series then the equivalent capacitance will be

In case of series the total capicitance will be 1/4mf. While in case of parallel combination the total capicitance of a capacitor will be 4mF.
