What is the legal reason Mailboxes are blue in the US?

The Mailboxes by USPS( United states Postal Services), which are used to collect outgoing mails are blue in colour. It is used for a normal collection for public. The reason why it's blue is because for many reasons.

Blue gives a formal and a business like impression to it's loom while making the double clear than it is no longer run by the Government. Moreover, blue colour might be serviceable too because it's not too light to easily get dirty because of graffiti.

Blue also gives a calm impression to the users, symbolising that all the mails, which weigh less than 13 ounces, and has proper stamps and postage on it, can be mailed out of such collection boxes.

Earlier, at the time of World war I, US Army donated a huge amount in order to paint the mailboxes green, but later, in order to make mailboxes identifiable, Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield announced that the Post Office should start painting them white, blue and red.

These blue boxes must be collected at least once in a day.
