Well, firstly this is a great opportunity for you, but since you have reached the limit on your compensation, you can plan to extend the sale till Dec 31st. You cannot let the sale happen before Jan 1st and customer needs sale to happen by Dec 31st. By allowing the customer to buy in December will not fetch you any compensation, but can generate income for sales made on or after Jan 1st.
So, the best thing you could do, is to give him a dummy receipt for the sale that he is intending to buy this year, that is by December 31st and log - in his sale in the system after 00:00 hours of midnight. By doing this, he can get an actual receipt for the sale on last day of the December and the sale timings in the system would be after midnight, which comes under Jan 1st.
In this situation, you need to act little smart to make sure the situation is win-win for both you and your customer. What customer needs is a purchase receipt for what he brought in December. And you need a compensation. So, you can take the total amount from the customer and give him a purchase receipt. But, the actual log-in of the sale will happen after Midnight of Dec 31st, that is on early hours of Jan 1st.
By doing this, you are getting the compensation you want because of the change in the sale date in the system. And he would get a purchase receipt for the money he paid on December 31st for the product he is intending to buy.

Look for mutual gain The third major block to creative problem-solving lies in the assumption of a fixed pie: the less for you, the more for me. Rarely if ever is this assumption true. First of all, both sides can always be worse off than they are now. Chess looks like a zero-sum game; if one loses, the other wins — until a dog trots by and knocks over the table, spills the beer, and leaves you both worse off...
