Solution :

Given that,

Point estimate = sample mean = \bar x = 35

sample standard deviation = s = 18

sample size = n = 10

Degrees of freedom = df = n - 1 = 10-1 = 9

At 98% confidence level

\alpha = 1-0.98% =1-0.98 =0.02

\alpha/2 =0.02/ 2= 0.01

t\alpha/2,df = t0.01,9= 2.82

t\alpha /2,df = 2.82

Margin of error = E = t\alpha/2,df * (s /\sqrtn)

= 2.82 * (18 / \sqrt 10)

Margin of error = E = 16.05

The 98% confidence interval estimate of the population mean is,

\bar x\pmE

35 \pm 16.05

19.0 < \mu < 51.0

(19.0,51.0)
