1 M solution means, 1 mole NaOH in 1 L solution,

Therefore, we need 1 mole NaOH and 1 L aqueous solvent

1 mole NaOH = 1× 40 = 40 gram NaOH is needed

Therefore, 40 gram NaOH should be dissolved in 1 L water

There can be other ways as well by varying amounts of NaOH and changing volume
