A hot air balloon is rising vertically at 9m/s. At an altitude of 500m, a ballast bag with a mass of 25kg breaks loose and falls under the influence of gravity. How long will it take to reach the ground and how fast will it be going when it hits the ground assuming no air resistance. Use g = 10 m/s2. Be sure to explain your reasoning while using our standard 4-point problem solving approach.
In vertical:
mass was with ballon so it would be having initial velocity same as ballon.
vi = 9 m/s
a = - 10 m/s^2
r = - 500 m (as it have to go down to reach ground )
using r = vi*t + at^2 /2
-500 = 9t - 10t^2/2
5t^2 - 9t - 500 = 0
t = 10.94 s .....Ans
vf = vi + at
vf = 9 - 10*10.94
vf = - 100.4 m/s

A hot-air balloon is rising straight up with a speed of 3.15 m/s. A ballast bag is released from rest relative to the balloon when it is 6.89 m above the ground. How much time elapses before the ballast bag hits the ground?
A balloonist, riding in the basket of a hot air balloon that is rising vertically with a constant velocity of 10.0 m/s, releases a sandbag when the balloon is 40.8 m above the ground. Ignoring air resistance, what is the bag's speed when it hits the ground? Example: (Not in book) [x² sin (x") dx Let u = x
A hot air balloon is rising vertically with a velocity of 2.0 feet per second. A very small ball is released from the hot air balloon at the instant when it is 640 feet above the ground. Use a(t)=−32 ft/sec^2 as the acceleration due to gravity. 1. How many seconds after its release will the ball strike the ground? Round the answer to the nearest two decimal places. 2. At what velocity will it hit the ground?
