If we forget to assign the ip address to the switch there will be no vast difference in the network functionality and network performance because a switch being a layer 2 network device does not need the ip address to be assigned to it in order to forward packet to the destination and the ip address in only used for the administartive purpose like for Network management process. The switch does not require a IP address for it functionality to improve and hence no issue will be encountered with the network funcationality and performance.
