The field on either side of an infinite sheet of charge of density ϝ {C/m^2} is E = ϝ{/2E_o} where {E_o} is the permittivity constant. If the charge densities of the sheets A = 6 ϝ, B = -4 ϝ and C = -3 ϝ, find the field in the four regions indicated in the figure shown above.

Region I : E = ϝ{/E_o}{\bf i} N/C
Region II : E = ϝ{/E_o}{\bf i} N/C
Region III : E = ϝ{/E_o}{\bf i} N/C
Region IV : E = ϝ{/E_o}{\bf i} N/C

Answer #1

I)

E = (-6 + 4 + 3) sigma/E0 = 1 sigma/E0

II)

E = (6 + 4 + 3) sigma/E0 = 13 sigma/E0

III)

E = (6 - 4 + 3) sigma/E0 = 5 sigma/E0

IV)

E = (6 - 4 - 3) sigma/E0 = -1 sigma/E0
