Describe a symbol in your life. It can be a religious one or not. But I want to know something in your life that is communal (that is to say, it takes place with other people) or personal (you go through it alone) that points "beyond itself". Especially good topics are symbols that you share with friends, family, teams, scout troops, or whatever - just a meaningful group (important places, annual parties, hand signs, code words, handshakes, etc).

I want you to deeply diagnose the thing - even if you never have before: What are the motions involved? Do they have a significance? What is the connection between sign and symbolized? What feeling or event is it meant to evoke? Just describe each and every element that is consistently involved and explain its significance... Is there a "mythology" behind it? (that is to say, a key founding story that's interpretive, rather than exact, history)

hand signs:

it involves acceptance, sometime ignorance, sometime victory, some time hapiness. Yes a lot. It is beyond the language one speaks. It has grat power to communicate. I don't know of mythology but yes its there.
