What are some environmental factors that affect behavior such as eating healthy? This can include examples of the effects of time, atmosphere or shopping behavior. I just need a few of these examples for my consumer behavior class:)

(Answer) Consumer behavior in terms of eating habits can be influenced by a number of social, cultural and economic factors. A typical environmental factor could involve the type of produce that is grown in a region. For instance, mangoes in America come from South and Central America. This means that the fruit would be expensive as it would levy the import and transportation cost along with the price of the actual fruit. This has resulted in mangoes becoming an unimportant part of the American diet.

Economic factors might include the fact that fast-food and processed foods are cheaper and mass produced as compared to local farm produce that is organically grown. Lower economic classes might frequently end up buy these cheaper foods as opposed to opting for expensive and healthy choices.

There are several other factors like lucrative offers and discounts, attractive packaging, brand loyalty, etc, that are also likely to affect buying behavior. Also, cultural factors might be a variable that affects consumer behavior. For instance, most Hindus are vegetarian. This means that a shop that sells steak in a Hindu locality might not be the most profitable business.
