Answer #1

There are many body parts, for which detailed drawings are very complicated but the shape and geometry always remains same. For these machine parts, we do not draw every details.we may skip those and state the standards as per pre defined drawing handbooks. Because manufacturer and workshop drafters know all about the standards very well. We just need to specify.

A very common example is Screw thread. It is very complicated to draw the helix, and there are so many of them. We can just draw two lines for major dia and two dotted lines for minor dia. And provide a details "M12" that means the code M12 is pre defined in all mechanical handbooks with picth major minor dia, angles and everything. We don't need to draw its shape and geometry. Also head size is specified in metric chart. So we don't need to be bothered that much.

Like that we have pipe standards, Nut-bolt standards, wire, steel rope, shafts, small gears, fasteners, rivets, weldment and so many.

These products are manufactured hugely and have vast use. So standards are made for once, for we just need to specify which standards we want. This makes the cost in control too, because we don't need to redesign these and factory tools don't need to be chaned for different design.
