Protected class is a group of men & women with a normal characteristic. Every US National is a member of a protected status. Obesity as a working class could be the next class to get public attention for pursuing protected class status. A large section of the US population is overweight or obese, and, the number is increase. The group should not be discriminated against.

Instances of discrimination against the obese:

  • These get fewer promotions
  • Are seen as lacking competence, and, self-discipline
  • Earn less than fitter individuals in comparable jobs
  • Can be suspended for their weight despite good job performance
  • Obese, and, overweight adults are 37 & 12 times more likely to report employment discrimination as compared to normal weight individuals
