Answer #1

NiS in the water solution dissociate as -

NiS(s) <----> Ni2+(aq) + S2-(aq)

Initial conc. = -- 0 0

Change conc.= -- + 1X + 1X

Equil. conc. = -- 0+1X = 1X 0+1X = 1X

Leave the ksp table empty because NiS(s) doesn't contribute with ksp.

Ksp =[Ni2+] [S2-]

Let X = S = molar solubility

Or Ksp = (S) (S)

Ksp = (S)^2

S = √ksp

Ksp = 4×10^-20 .....(given).

S = √4×10^-20

S = 2×10^-10

Hence the molar solubility of Nickel (II) sulfide in water solution is = 2×10^-10.
