What does it mean if a solvent in an experiment (methanol) is chilled to transfer and wash products v. if it is at room temperature

It is depent on nature of your product which is your product. they are two reason for this

1. if your prouct is soluble in methanol at room tempreture or some extent soluble at room tempreture and not soluble at chilled methanol tempreture then you should use the chilled methanol instead of methanol at room tempreture.

2. you are washing your product with chilled methanol that mean your product is insoluble at this tempreture in methanol but impurity those are adhered to your product are soluble in chilled methanol and you get more pure product.
