A client has approached you with regards to an existing burglar alarm system. It is currently powered by a 5V supply and the system runs at quite a high frequency. However, this power supply has proved problematic and they wish to replace it with a 12V supply. The client has also asked you to re-design the digital logic using all NAND gates. You will also need to state what the valid voltage range for logic HIGH (1) and LOW (0) will be for the system regarding inputs and outputs.

Answer #1

When the switch is closed one input of the NAND gate is LOW. When the LDR is in the light the other input is LOW. This means that if either of these things happen, i.e. the switch is closed or the light is on one of the inputs is LOW, the output is HIGH and the buzzer sounds.

How might one create a burglar alarm system using the PT5529B-L2-H2-F photo transistor in which a 12 Volt alarm sounds continuously when a person breaks the laser beam? Include a user button to reset the system and turn off the alarm after a burglar has triggered it. Provide a detailed circuit diagram and a brief explanation of operation. Hint: use an SR latch and any other logic gate to provide the logic. Apply the output of the logic to the...
