Answer #1

A student of Boston University, John, lives in Chicago was looking for the internship in his area for 3 months. He found one opportunity in his area. He cracked the interview and awarded a position. When he had gone through the contract of internship, he found that the internship was of 6 months but he has only 3 months for the summer vacations.

The benefits of the option one i.e. John should accept the internship and quit after 3 months are as follows: He would gain the experience, cost associate with the internship would be low and time to search another internship would be reduced.

The benefits of the option second i.e. He should be honest with the company even though it might mean he would lose the opportunity is as follows: Trustworthiness would be enhancing towards the John by the company, company might reduce the duration for john, he would get job opportunities in future, he would get certificate or proof of completion an internship and he might be referred by the company to another company.

There may be another option that is John can negotiate with the university professor so that they may grant an extended period of time for the internship and also with the company that they may consider reduction in the time period of internship in the contract. The benefits would be he might not lose the opportunity, his time would be reduced, he has the future opportunities with the company, relationships would be enhanced and experience gained by the John.

The Conclusion which is suggest is to go with the third option as this will have the 50 % chances of winning the opportunity without loosing the options.
