You are the mayor of a community of 12000 people. You are active in virtually all of the civic activities of the town and as such your opinion is solicited on political, economic, sociological and other factors. You have been asked by one of the civic groups to comment on the implicatications for the community of a prospective purchase of the largest local commercial bank by an out of state bank holding company , what is your response.

The response to the buyout of a large local commercial bank by an out of state bank would depend on the current state of affairs at the local commercial bank. If the local commercial bank is in bad financial shape and the buy out helps restore fiscal health and also protect jobs, then this buyout is a good move and should be recommended.

On the other hand, if the buy out is more of a strategic purchase for the out of state bank which would try to realise economic gains based on synergies and cutting jobs, then such a purchase may not be good for the community.
