In your opinion, does the Made in America movement to buy more local goods contradict operating in a global environment or is there room for all types of products and services?
What other movements can you think of that have a similar tone or ideological backing?
As the world continues to advance technologically and socially, do you think economies will continue to become more intertwined or will movements like the "Made in America" one continue?
In principle, made in America movement to promote and buy local goods are against the theme of globalization and globalized world where everyone can sell goods and services anywhere in the world while meeting necessary compliances. Here, people running the movement are trying to sensitize consumers to buy goods, manufactured by local producers even if it does not provide matching price and quality. Rather, people aim to go for the value and if it is delivered by imported goods, then they go for it. It makes movement like made in America to be more of politically motivated and it is on the same line of Making America great again, narrative set by Trump in his presidential campaign. Though, the true aim of such campaign is to bring more investments by US companies in the USA to create more jobs, rather only buying local products in the USA. Hence, there is a vast possibility of coexistence of locally manufactured goods with imported goods in the market, unless the US government bans some of the imported goods, citing danger to the national securities. Here, there is always a room for all types of products in the market, barring exceptions.
Recently, Indian Government has launched vocal for local campaign in India to promote goods produced by local industries and become self reliant. But, for this to happen, it is very important to have equally quality substitutes at the same price to make consumers buy these local goods.
In the given scenario of globalization and technological development, economy will be more intertwined and interdependent due to free trade agreements , specialization of resources and nations forming strategic alliances. Though, campaigns like made in America will also be raised, because it is more related to job creation in a short term basis and it is a very important topic in the presidential election in the USA. All the governments either of democratic party or republican party, promise to make more jobs and for this, they propose different means. Campaigns like made in America and Make America great again are the part of that promises. But, it is not a mean to obstruct globalization and interdependence of economies, because it has more gains than the losses.

Central bankers have a favourite mantra: Patch the roof while the sun is shining. But 10 years after the Federal Reserve worked alongside the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan to bring the global economy back from the brink, their ability to prevent the next downturn is limited. Whether the world’s central banks are prepared to combat another slump is becoming less of a hypothetical question as the global economy shows signs of strain. The chances that the...
