Here we are given a figure that depicts for each of 50 states and washington DC the relation between the percent of the states population living in an metropolitan area and the violent crime rate for the state.
a) Based on the scatter plot we can conclude that a fairly positive association is present between the percent of the states population living in an metropolitan area and the violent crime rate for the state.
b) From the scatter plot we see there is an outlier. The outlier occurs at the oint where the states populatin living is nearly 120 and the violent crime rate for the state is approximately 2000.
c) Here an outlier analysis is done using scatter plot because if any outlier is present then we can identify it easily as the oint lies far from the other scatter points. We can also gather information about the interval after which if the states populayion is increased in a metropolitan area , the violent crime rate for the state increases rapidly.
