A researcher tests the effects of sleep deprivation on memory span (how many items (e.g., numbers) a person can keep in mind at once). Toward this end she recruits 5 participants. Each participant’s memory span is tested when normally rested (after waking from 8 hours of sleep), after being awake for 24 hours, and after being awake for 48 hours. The data are presented in the table below. Answer the following questions using an alpha of .05.

Note: for all problems, assume a.05 1. A common assumption is that sleep deprivation influences aggression. To test this assumption, volunteer subjects are randomly assigned by a researcher to sleep-deprivation periods of 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours and subsequently tested for aggressive behavior in a controlled social situation. Aggressive scores signify the total number of different aggressive behaviors, such as "put downs," arguments, or verbal interruptions, as demonstrated by subjects during the test period. You are given the following...

    1. (15 pts total) Fourteen students participated in a research study on the effect of sleep deprivation in a motor skill task. The students played the game "Operation" either after a full night of sleep or after being kept awake for 36 hours. Each task was measured two weeks apart. Half of the students were randomly assigned to sleep deprivation in the first week and a full night of sleep in the second week, and the other half completed the...

Problem Set 2: Two-way mixed design ANOVA (8 pts) Research Scenario: A researcher is attempting to determine the effects of age and sleep deprivation on a reaction time task. Participants (5 “old”; 5 “young”) in an experiment are given a computerized search task. They search a computer screen of various characters and attempt to find a particular character on each trial. When they find the designated character, they press a button to stop a timer. Their reaction time (in ms)...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
