If a researcher samples only a group of willing students versus a random group of students, would this cause a problem in evaluating the efficacy of his program? Why?
Yes, this would cause a lot of bias in evaluating the efficacy of his program because of following reasons:-
i) Only willing students may not form a unbiased opinion of the class because it would create a voluntery bias as only interested students would represent the whole class.
ii) it might happen that only a group of talented students willingly opt in then the researcher might be under the impression that the program was a real success but this might not be the case.
iii) Depending on the quality and number of willing students the conclusion might change, creating further problems and not having a unbiased opinion.
iv) Instead if a random sample is chosen then the sample would make sure that it is giving unbiased opinion of the whole class and none of the student is missed as it is random everyone has the same chance of being selected.
Do comment if you have any doubt.
Thank you !!

10. Comparing Colleges. A researcher obtains random samples of SAT scores from students at three different colleges. She plans to use the three sets of sample data with the method of analysis of variance. Identify the null and alternative hypothesis.
Suppose a researcher is interested in the number of good versus bad dreams that students have during final exam week. The researcher states that p = 0.52 that a student will have a bad dream during final exam week. (a) What type of probability distribution is appropriate for these data? binomial distribution negatively skewed distribution bimodal distribution positively skewed distribution (b) If a professor has 50 students in his class, then how many students should he expect to have bad...
From a group of 12 students, we want to select a random sample of 4 students to serve on a university committee. How many different random samples of 4 students can beselected?
A researcher was asked to estimate mean GPA of all students at Pace University in 2016. He has selected at random 30 students and calculated their mean GPA. It was found to be equal to 3.2. The sample size e) f) Number of classes the researcher can use to summarize his findings (hint: use 2>n) g) Can the researcher apply central limit theorem? (yes /no) Explain h) What is the shape of this sampling distribution? (normal / approximately normal) (hint:...
9 additional students were used as a control group. Each of these students had pre and post ratings made at the same time as the pre and post ratings for the treatment group. However, the control group did not attend the lecture - slide demonstration as did the treatment group. The researcher hypothesized that improvement ( pre and post) scores for the treatment group would be higher than improvement ( pre and post) scores for the control group. What statistical...

A researcher wants to know how undergraduate college students at her university feel about a list of 1196 undergraduate college students at her university, selects 500 of them at random, and emails a questionnaire to them 107 questionnaires are returned. Of these, 71% stated that they believe that the federal student loan program needs to be completely overhauled. Classify the following groups as the population or the sample for this particular study. If...
The proportion of all students who have twenty-twenty (20-20) vision is 0.170. A random group of 50 students is selected and their eyesight checked. 5) a) How many students in this group would you expect to have 20-20 vision? That is, what is the mean number of 20-20 vision students among groups of 50 students? b) What is the probability that only 5 or fewer of them have 20-20 vision? c) If it turned out that 27 of the 50...
What would be Type I or Type II errors in these scenarios: If a consumer group wants to see if people can tell whether they are drinking tap water or bottled water would this create a Type I or Type II error? If a college instructor wishes to see whether his students prefer to work on assignments individually or in groups would a Type I or Type II error occur? If a teacher is evaluating a program designed to improve...
Problem Set 7.1: t Test with Related Samples • Criterion: Differentiate between independent samples, repeated measures, and matched samples. • Data: o Scenario A: A researcher wants to know whether men or women spend more money at the movie concession stand. He asks the concession clerk to identify customers as male or female by marking their gender on each saved receipt. o Scenario B: A CPR instructor wants to know if her students are learning anything during her 90-minute training....
Previous Problem List Next (1 point) Two random samples are taken, one from among UVA students and the other from among UNC students. Both groups are asked if academics are their top priority.
