What is the difference between replication and (two primary methods of) partitioning when dealing with distributed databases, and when would you use one partitioning method versus the other?
Please upvote if you are able to understand this and if there is any query do mention it in the comment section.
Replication in distributed databases is a method to persist a copy of data which is similar on different types of nodes whereas methods of partitioning in distributed databases is a way to split a particular database(horizontally or vertically) into smaller parts and then those smaller parts are distributed into nodes which are can also vary.
Partitioning methods can be used to according of splitting the database either horizontally or vertically.

Databases scale up horizontally with two main strategies: replication and partitioning. (i) Define horizontal scaling, and explain the difference between replication and partitioning. (ii) Discuss whether both data replication and data partitioning can be implemented by the same database, or both are incompatible.
