Answer #1

The given set of equations are

3x-4y=4 \Rightarrow Equation \ 1

(1/2)*x-6y=2 \Rightarrow Equation \ 2

We have to check whether x=2,y=1/2 is a solution to the set of equation.

Consider Equation 1

We shall first evaluate the left hand side at x=2,y=1/2

3*(2)-4*(1/2)=6-2=4

Right hand side : 4

Left \ Hand \ Side=Right \ Hand \ Side

Hence, the equation is satisfied

Consider Equation 2

(1/2)x-6y=2

Substituting

x=2,y=(1/2), we get

(1/2)*2-6(1/2)=1-3=-2

Right Hand Side : 2

Left hand side and right hand side are not equal. Hence the second equation is not satisfied

Since the second equation is not satisfied at x=2,y=(1/2) , these are not a solution to the given set of equations
