One of the most important trends as per the psychosocial development theory is to achieve intimacy and form a family of one’s own while also being generative in one’s job. Since the time period is 20-40 years of age, it’s also considered to be the most fruitful time when one makes the most of one’s life. If individuals didn’t complete their previous stages successfully, they would probably end-up in isolation and stagnation in which they would be unproductive and experience trouble in relationships. As per attachment theory, people who have formed secure attachment would be able to stick to the intimate relationship and others would have trouble maintaining positive and healthy relationship both intimate and professional. As for as the social learning theory is concerned, people would shape their behaviours and adopt actions that would reward them by observing others which may make or mar their lives.

The developmental theories of Erikson and Piaget agree that an important stage of development is learning to be less egocentric (i.e., less focused on oneself).
