Attachment theory is formulated by John Bowlby. It a psychological, evolutionary and ethological theory which describes attachment as an enduring and deep emotional human relationships. The emotional bond connects one human being to another across space and time. For example, the attachment and need of proximity of an infant to his mother (caregiver) in time of distress. Mary Ainsworth further developed the theory in 70's. The importance of the Tavistock Clinic to the concept of attachment is that his research on attachment relationships came from there.
