The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus, is venomous. Believing that diet is responsible for the toxicity of the octopus zoologist collect samples into two groups.
Group 1 is from evergreen forest and considers juniper into the diet
Group 2 is collated from redwood forest and does not have access to juniper. Following statistics:
x̅1 = 29 LD50, s1 = 2.4 LD50, n1 = 49
x̅ 2 = 16 LD50, s2 = 1.9 LD50, n2 = 52
At 4% significance level determine if the diet with juniper has a higher toxicity.
i am using minitab to solve the problem.
steps :-
copy the data in minitab

select summarized data
in
sample 1 type 49 in sample size, 29 in sample mean, 2.4 in standard

sample 2 type 52 in sample size, 16 in sample mean, 1.9 in standard

select the alternative hypothesis as difference > hypothesized

ok.
*** SOLUTION ***
hypothesis:-

[ claim ]
the test statistic (t) = 30.06
p value = 0.0000
decision:-
p value = 0.0000 < 0.04 (alpha)
we reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to claim that the diet with juniper has a higher toxicity.
