Considering the many types of employment discrimination, share which discrimination law you believe is the most important. Explain your rationale.
Sex and Gender discrimination in the workplace-
According to my point of view, sex and gender discrimination in the workplace is most important. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 explains that employers must give men and women equal pay for similar work. Further, the act specifies that job content, not title, “determines whether jobs are substantially equal”. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act also prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex. It is illegal for employers to pay men and women different salaries based on their gender. As we all know about the phrase “Glass-ceiling” which referred as an intangible barrier within a hierarchy that prevents women or minorities from obtaining upper-level positions. As we can see most of the large companies do not have women at the senior most positions.
According to the BBC report, published in 2018, men typically earn over 8% more per hour than women. At some jobs or work companies do not even hire women.
