Solution:

Option E is the correct answer.

The total capacitance will be less than the capacitance of the smaller capacitor.

In order to verify this, let us consider two capacitors with capacitances, C_{1}=0.1\mu F and C_{2}=0.5\mu F

When these two capacitors are connected in series, the total capacitance

C_{T}=\frac{1}{C_{1}}+\frac{1}{C_{2}}

C_{T}=\frac{1}{0.1\mu F}+\frac{1}{0.5\mu F}

C_{T}=0.0833\mu F

C_{T}=0.0833\mu F<0.1\mu F

So the total capacitance is less than the capacitance of the small capacitor.

So other options are incorrect.
