Explanation:

cognitive dissonance happens when an individual is having two or more conflicting attittudes, beliefs or behaviours. For example, a person who smokes will experience dissonance if he believes that smoking leads to cancer. Because the behaviour of the person contradicts with his belief.

We can reduce cognitive dissonance by either changing one of the attittude/belief/behaviour or by justifying attittude/belief/behaviour.

In the above scenerio, the person justifies his attittude.
