Control is the way that we catch failures in implementation or strategy. After discussing the guidelines for proper control, state 2 examples that highlight the recommendation.
Example -
Controls should be timely. Corrective action must be taken before it is too late.
"During a survey during accreditation period, Joint Commission flagged my healthcare agency for 2 standards (handwashing, documentation timeliness). A correction action was immediately taken right away. I set up meeting with both clinicians and staff, infection control team...."
Ans: Guidelines for proper control:
1. A proper control system should find deviations and indicate
and suggest corrective actions immediately and in time. It is not
enough to only document the deviations and take corrective action
to fix them but steps should be taken and efforts should be made to
prevent the occurrence of these deviations in future.
Example:
During my tenure as the researcher for my project wherein, I was to find the best practices, the scope of what constituted best practice was not defined and that made the control system very vulnerable to deviations and what I did was to define the parameters of what will constitute to be a best practice greatly limited the deviations.
2. Control system should be objective. The control systems
should evaluate employees with a great deal of objective
determination and that control should remain definite and
objective.
Example:
When I was handling the performance appraisal of my teammates, I tried my best to keep it objective and reduce any notion of subjectivity, teammates responded positively and reported the control system to be impartial and unbiased.
